It is almost time for the much-awaited debut show of Gucci’s new creative director and Alessandro Michele’s successor, Sabato De Sarno, since his appointment in January 2023. While Naples-born De Sarno has earlier worked with Valentino, Prada and Dolce & Gabbana, this is his first stint as a creative director, which warrants a lot of curiosity towards his debut.
Sabato’s debut collection, titled ‘Milano Ancora’ will be showcased in Milan’s Brera district, at Milan Fashion Week and is a departure from the legacy of former creative director, with de Sarno taking inspiration from Gucci archives in Florence, highlighting the history of the Italian heritage label. The invitation for the Gucci SS24 show featured a special record mix of Show Me Love by Robin S, to mark the 30th anniversary of the original track, and a red box with a chunky gold bracelet with the word ‘ANCORA’ on it, inside. The show is expected to take on a minimalist approach with Jackie bags, Jordaan loafers, GG belt and Marina chain jewellery from the 70s (which was Sabato’s first ad campaign at Gucci recently, with the return of supermodel, Daria Werbowy). Reportedly, Alia Bhatt will also make an appearance at the show, as their brand ambassador.
Catch the livestream of the show here at 6:30 PM IST.
